Deutsches Filmmuseum
The Deutsches Filmmuseum in Frankfurt am Main was opened in 1984 and is the oldest film museum in Germany. It emerged from the Kommunale Kino, an arthouse cinema supported by the council which was established in 1971. The Deutsches Filmmuseum has ever since its establishment been dedicated not only to presenting exhibitions concerning film history but also to the preservation of film heritage through its archives and collections. The in-house cinema is an integral part of the institution and specializes in the screening of films by particular directors, actors or nations, topic-oriented retrospectives as well as the presentation of documentaries, short films, experimental films and also silent films accompanied by music. Since the 1st of January 2006 the Deutsches Filmmuseum is no longer administered by the council but by the Deutsches Filminstitut DIF e.V.

The Deutsches Filmmuseum is closed for construction work and will reopen in spring 2011. Until then we will continue our programme with selected cinema screenings, exhibitions, special events and festivals at other locations.
